TRY this. Go to a mirror. Right now. No, I’m serious. Don’t worry, nothing bad will happen. I think.
Now, when you get there, turn the lights down very dim, if you can. At least try to get as little light in the room as possible. Now, look into the mirror at yourself. Look into your own eyes. Don’t blink and don’t move your eyes. Keep CONSTANT eye contact. After about a minute, your face will change, subtly. You’ll think, is this some kind of optical illusion? Keep staring, keep constant eye contact. The changes will become more pronounced; you’ll be able to see them in your peripheral vision. Eventually, the person in the mirror will only marginally resemble you.
For me, my nose becomes bigger, my lips fuller, and my eyebrows become arched. The person who only barely looks like me in the mirror looks a lot more intense, not to mention angrier...a LOT
angrier. Like he would tear out my throat if he could. Gives me the creeps.
Now, for a while after doing this, you’ll feel jumpy and nervous, like something is watching you or is in your house. I know, I feel it too. That’s why I don’t do this mirror trick that often. Just try to ignore it, and it goes away after a while.
Now, this isn’t one of those creepy scenes where the writer seems to be omniscient. I have no idea who the guy in the mirror is and I don’t know why he looks so angry. I don’t know why I feel so jumpy after doing this, or why it feels like something is watching me, or like I’m in danger. Maybe we ARE in danger. You don’t know any more than I do.
